Georgetown is ideally located 10 miles north of Lexington, the “Horse Capital of the World." Georgetown was founded in 1790 by Baptist minister Elijah Craig. Reverend Craig is perhaps best known for his world famous invention, "bourbon" whiskey.Historic, downtown Georgetown—one of the most picturesque, Victorian downtown areas in Kentucky, features antique shops, a variety of unique boutiques, and restaurants that offer the best in country cooking and coffee shops that offer tasty sandwich’s and divine desserts.
Enjoy a historic walking tour that features over 200 buildings/homes that are listed on the national registry of historic places. Historic Ward Hall, which is said to be the largest Greek Revival house in Kentucky and one of the finest example of Greek Revival Architecture in the south, is open for tours on select weekends. Georgetown is also home of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. where the top ranked Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and the Lexus ES 350 are produced.
